Awakening by J.E. Swift

Review By:  Lisa Rutledge

3.5 Stars

                                                                                         Goodreads Synopsis:
Caitlyn Young has no immediate plans after college, but that doesn’t mean others, specifically elite tech firm Trust Corporation do not have plans for her. When recruiter Garrett Stevens expresses interest in the graduate student, she believes it romantically, since she has no marketable skills that his company could be possibility be interested in.

She is half right.

Caitlyn has something far more important than marketable skills- she has the proper DNA they want and that DNA, which had lain dormant for years, is about to activate.

When it does, the result is beyond what anyone could hope. Caitlyn finds herself being wooed by many in a secret society who would like to use her for their own devices, including Declan McPherson, a prodigy himself who understands exactly what she is going through.

When it becomes clear that not everyone is who they appear to be and those betrayals lead back to a rogue faction, Caitlyn must decide on who she can trust and who she can forgive.

My Review:
How would you feel if you found out you were apart of a secret society?  To know from this second forward you won't be living a normal American life.  Well then you're about to get thrown off course with this rude Awakening.

Caitlyn is not your average college graduate, she has an illness that is threatening to take her life at any second.  But one day she wakes up and finds out she has changed and has gone through her Awakening.  Fortunately for Cailtyn she befriended Garrett, and he informs her that he is her mentor and what had happened to her; since she is know apart of The Trust.  They slowly grow a deeper relationship through her training, and decide to take the next step.  Only to be thrown off course by the prodigy, Declan McPherson.  Caitlyn has the same great abilities as he does, so he takes her on as his new student.  Declan and Caitlyn form a bond, and become great friends.  Such a great bond, that she saves his and Garretts life against the wolf in sheeps clothing.  This wolf is working for The Cine Tofa (the mobs of this paranomal book).  He is seeking out secret classified information from The Trust and relays it back to them.  But there is a twist that is brought to light....Mr. Garrett has been hiding the truth about who he really is.  Can Caitlyn learn to trust him again?  Will she find out who her true friends are?  And will the wolf in sheeps clothing get taken down for his wrong doings?

Awakening was a book that I thought I would really enjoy.  Only, I just couldn't get into it.  There were so many factors to this story, that I felt lost.  One of the main reasons I was lost, was all the talk about The Trust, and the different branches under it.  It reminded me of our American Judicial System.  Then they throw The Cine Tofa into the mix, who are The Trusts enemies, and lose me some more.  It was just too much information for one book.  Especially since this is going to be a series.  But I do see where the author was going with the development of the characters and plot.  Overall I was intrigued with the authors wonderful writing style and creativity used in this book.  Please read this book, if you are looking for something different and you love to read series.
