Synopsis from Goodreads:
After struggling with the loss of yet another person so dear to her heart, Mia Sullivan, transforms her frustration and loneliness, into focusing on her future career. As the top of her class at Harvard Law, she’s nervous and excited, when given the opportunity of a summer extern position at one of the top firms in Boston. Her new boss is young, extraordinarily handsome, and the successful, Marcus DeLuca. Slowly she begins to fall for him, but as she caves in to his charms, she begins to discover he is keeping something from her.
Marcus DeLuca is living two lives: one that involves his successful career and the other that could potentially ruin his entire reputation. Every day is a stressful and hectic environment with his busy schedule. His secret could jeopardize not only his life but everyone he loves. That’s why he has no extra room for a serious, romantic relationship, but after meeting Mia he cannot resist her. She is innocent, humble, and pure, the total opposite of him. She distracts him from all of his deep, dark secrets. He knows once Mia finds out the things he has done and who he truly is, she will never want to look at him again. Deep down he knows he must stay away but he can’t.
Mia and Marcus are heading down a path of love, lies, heart break and betrayal. Can their love conquer all or will it end?
Mia Sullivan is the kind of heroine that I love. She is smart, driven and has no problem speaking her mind. Mia has had enough heartache to last a life time. She has no choice when it comes to being alone without family, but she does when it comes to relationships. She chooses to focus on her dream career.
When I think of Marcus, I picture one of my childhood heartthrobs. Antonio Sabato, Jr. I had a mad crush on him when I was young. E.L Montes describes him to a T, dimples and all. Sigh............On top of being gorgeous, he is smooth and powerful. He has a mysteriousness to him that draws you in.
Marcus DeLuca (Breathe)
This book captures you from the beginning, and you get to witness the instant and undeniable attraction between Mia and Marcus. Although it seems kind of unrealistic and fast, you see Mia being cautious once they agree to start dating.
Marcus DeLuca had to be a dangerous man because I was caving in too soon; it was just too soon to feel this attachment, to feel and want him so desperately. When something seems too good to be true, it's exactly that.
From the beginning you're pulling for them, but it seems like there are warning signs everywhere. This story is full of angst, watching them so desperate for one another and doing everything they can to hold onto each other. Early in the book I thought I had everything figured out, but E.L. Montes does a great job with the twists and turns.
This is the first book I've read of E.L. Montes. She is very talented. I was so excited to dive into this book after reading the incredible prologue. I cannot wait for the sequel to Disastrous!
